30.6.1981: Closing of the Majdanek Trial
After five-and-a-half years, the longest German trial against Nazi war criminals finally ended. The 61-year-old SS-guard Hermine Ryan-Braunsteiner was sentenced to lifelong imprisonment. Lighter sentences for other criminals led to public demonstrations. Majdanek was originally a Soviet prisoner of war camp and was later used as a death camp by the SS.
