17.10.1813: Georg Büchner (19.2.1837) |
 |
German writer Georg Büchner paved the way for early 20th Century expressionist drama. Supportive of political and economic revolution, his radical pamphlet "The Hessian Courier" forced him to flee to Strasbourg in 1834. His three dramas "Dantons Death" (1835), "Leonce and Lena" (1836) and the unfinished masterpiece "Woyzeck" (1836) were influenced both by Shakespeare and the Sturm und Drang movement. |
