12.7.1776: James Cook on a new voyage of discovery |
 |
With two voyages already under his belt, James Cook set off on a new exploratory mission. He discovered Hawaii in 1778, and set off from there in a second attempt to find a North-West or North-East Passage. But damage to a ship forced him to return to Hawaii. The explorer and cartographer was killed there in 1779 in a dispute with the locals. |
