9.9.1922: Victory for Turkish troops
The Fall of Smyrna, today known as Izmir, led to Turkish victory in the Turkish-Greek war. In the Lausanne Agreement of 1923, the Greeks agreed to relinquish their claims to the Turkish mainland. All Greeks were forced to leave western Turkey, and the ancient Hellenic culture was banished from Asia Minor.
